We have been learning about Matariki, the different stars and what they represent. We made a book to show the different stars and their meanings. We created our own symbol for each star. Here is my book. |

Waitā Poem Writing,
We have been learning about the Matariki star, Waitā; the star that represents the sea and the creatures that live in it. Here is my Waitā poem.
Tupuānuku Art
This week we have been learning about the star Tupuānuku. Tupuānuku is the star connected to food grown in the ground, such as vegetables and rongoa (traditional medicine). “Tupu” means ‘to grow’ and “nuku” is the shortened version of “Papatuanuku” and means ‘earth’. We did some art to help us remember. We folded the paper so we could draw the vegetables under the ground and then we added what they looked like on top. Finally we died them using blue and brown.
